Masa Face
You must kneel and deny there is a stranger eating at the table. Fourteen
submarines were excavated from the ocean after the nuclear war. You must
raise your hand to receive your portion of tobacco. Flugelhorns were outlawed
but the minstrel rolled up his sleeves. You must keep track of your own
chromosomes before they become gospel. The house contained sheep, elk
horns, breakfast dishes, guitar picks, and unpredictable fruit. You must
feel uncomfortable picking flowers in the night garden. Little animals
swallowed the stones, mistaking them for feed from the grain bin. You
must allow the rattlesnakes to go by and not even think of turning your
head. Fields of corn stood at attention as the spiders filled their husks.
You must admit your left hand smells and your right hand is perfumed.
The invention of poverty arrived in history to increase the number of
empty beds. You must look at the mural on the wall and find the caricature
of someone you healed by simply offering them a glass of water. Sugar
cane was mistaken for corn and the sweet destruction burned across the
world without disturbing any organized religion. You must hurry and start
the engine because the helicopter is shivering inside his machine.
